I believe core values are the guiding principles that shape our behaviour and decision-making process. My core values are:

Work hard and be good to people • Go the extra mile and deliver excellence. • Don’t be an arsehole. • Help people shine.

Act with integrity • Speak the truth. • Be transparent. • Never do anything that will hurt anyone, or you will later regret.

Knowledge, skill, and behavioursKnowledge: The things you know and the experience you have gained. • Skill: How you put your knowledge to good use (e.g. can you write good software?) • Behaviours: How you behave, collaborate, communicate, coach, mentor, lead, execute.

** Behaviours are the most important.*

This is a do-it-yourself world • No one is coming to rescue you. • No one will hand anything to you on a plate. • If you want something, go and make it happen. • Be a victor, not a victim. • Stop looking for excuses. It’s on you.

Life is a hustle - embrace it • When nothing is simple, clear, or straightforward, dive in and make sense of it. • Keep hustling until you get what you want. • Change is constant; roll with it.

Direction, opportunity and trustSet a direction: Set clear ambitions and get everyone moving in the same direction. [The Preacher] • Create the opportunity: Create the right environment (people, tools, processes, whatever) for people to succeed. [The Farmer] • Give trust: Get out of their way and trust them to do the right things. Do not micro-manage. Verify that trust. Intervene and course correct when needed. [The Shepherd]

Take responsibility and be accountable • I am responsible for everything that does and does not happen in my team. • I am accountable for the things I promise to deliver, even if others are responsible for execution.
